In the past nine months or so an estimated 905,000+ people have poured into the small country of Bangladesh. They are escaping what has been called a textbook example of ethnic cleansing. The Rohingya people, as they are called, lived in neighboring Myanmar for centuries; and suddenly found themselves fleeing for their lives. Their mass exodus into Bangladesh provided them some immediate safety, but conditions are grim. Bamboo post and plastic tent cities have sprung up out of nowhere. Some estimates put their numbers at near a million with as high as 60 percent being women and children. In many ways this group of people are extremely susceptible to a humanitarian disaster. Poor water, disease and the approaching monsoon season with the potential for cyclones are just a few of the problems they face. Every dollar we receive for this event will go directly into the hands of volunteers who are giving of themselves and their time; providing medical care at a clinic in the refugee camp in Southeastern Bangladesh. |
About the water feature:
Dayna and Farley Peechatcka contacted Tussey Landscaping early last year with hopes of bringing a mountain stream to their beautiful home. After going through a design phase where they discussed their ideas with Derek Mathews, a Tussey Landscaping designer, they settled on a 50' long pondless waterfall, with approx. 21,000 gallons per hour of water flowing. This would be enough water to truly make you feel as if you were sitting beside a mountain stream while in their backyard.
The stream and waterfalls were constructed with mossy weathered limestone boulders trucked in all the way from the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. The unique rugged character provided that authentic, aged, natural feel to make it seem as if the stream had been there for a long time. Along the stream bed are steps and a flagstone walkway, allowing you to walk alongside the flowing water and get a new view from different angles. Complete with a place to sit and put your feet in the water, this water feature has become the jewel of the backyard. Dayna and Farley were gracious and opened their home to us to put on this event. So that you could experience it for yourself, come out and get ideas, all the while supporting a good cause.
