A Backyard Escape Tailored for Tranquility
Some projects are extra special—especially when they’re for longtime clients. For this shaded and wooded backyard, our homeowner had one simple request: no more mowing. With dense trees limiting grass growth, we turned the focus to what nature does best—water, stone, and serenity.
We began with a pondless water feature near the existing swimming pool, creating a peaceful corner where the sound of cascading water could be enjoyed year-round. The clients loved the soothing ambiance and outdoor lifestyle so much, they came back to Derek with a request: more water, more sound!
Derek answered with a stunning pond and waterfall design, featuring dramatic elevations and larger falls that fill the yard with the tranquil sounds of rushing water. These naturalistic waterfalls flow over mountain boulders, turning the space into something that feels like it was pulled from the pages of a fairy tale.
To complement all that natural beauty, we installed a spacious paver patio—complete with a built-in fire pit for cozy evening gatherings. An overhang at the pond provides shade by day and a front-row seat to fish-watching by night.
Now, the backyard is a low-maintenance, high-relaxation retreat—custom-built to bring joy in every season!
