A Hillside Haven: The Ultimate Backyard Oasis

This project is truly a backyard oasis—an elegant extension of a home perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the valley below. Our goal was to create a landscape that complemented the natural beauty of the surroundings while offering unmatched comfort and functionality.

Starting at the front, guests are welcomed by a grand walkway leading to the porch, framed by lush landscaping and a striking slate urn water feature. The heated driveway ensures year-round accessibility, especially during harsh winter months, and is equipped with proper drainage to handle heavy rains with ease.

Because the home is built into the hillside, we constructed a multi-tiered retaining wall that wraps around the garage. Each level is thoughtfully landscaped with low-maintenance plantings, creating both structure and beauty.

As you make your way to the backyard, you’ll find a space designed to wow at every turn. A large pond with cascading waterfalls sets a serene tone and sits beside a cozy pavilion—perfectly positioned just outside the splash zone of the pool for maximum relaxation. Nearby, a pergola shelters the hot tub, offering the option of shade and privacy.

The expansive patio features a harmonious blend of pavers that tie together the retaining walls and the architectural pillars of the outdoor structures. One of the standout design elements is the custom compass rose inlaid into the patio with precision-cut pavers. This stunning focal point not only adds a touch of artistry and craftsmanship to the space but also serves as a subtle nod to the homeowner’s love of travel and exploration.

At the heart of the backyard stands a spacious pavilion housing a gourmet outdoor kitchen and a stunning fireplace—the ultimate hub for family gatherings. Bar-height seating and counters provide ample space for a growing family to dine and connect.

As the sun sets and pool time winds down, a set of natural stone stairs leads you to the firepit area. Designed by Derek with entertaining in mind, this space includes a generous seating wall to accommodate larger groups in comfort.
