Covered Porch Expansion & Low-Maintenance Landscaping in East Freedom, PA

When our client in East Freedom, PA reached out to us, she had one main goal: create more usable outdoor living space while keeping maintenance to a minimum. As someone who loves spending time outdoors—and travels often—she wanted a space that was both beautiful and easy to care for.

Our designer Eric created a custom plan that expanded her existing covered porch and seamlessly blended the new patio space with what she already had. Because the backyard had a noticeable elevation change, our team installed a small retaining wall to properly level the patio area—ensuring a safe, functional, and visually clean finish.

The front of the home was a blank canvas, so we designed new landscape beds with native plantings to enhance curb appeal and provide seasonal interest. To meet her low-maintenance request, we used river gravel instead of traditional mulch, giving her a clean, modern look that won’t wash away or need frequent refreshing.

We also installed landscape edging around the entire bed perimeter, allowing her to mow right up against the edges without the need for trimming—or worrying about gravel spilling into the lawn. It’s details like these that make a big difference in day-to-day usability.

This was truly a one-of-a-kind outdoor living and landscaping project, thoughtfully designed around our client’s lifestyle, travel schedule, and love for the outdoors.
