New Outdoor Living Space in Roaring Spring, PA

This hardscape project started out as a home in Roaring Spring, PA, with virtually no landscaping, no patio, no nothing. We were contacted to design an outdoor living space for the backyard initially. There was some back and forth in the design process between Dave, the designer for this project, and the homeowners regarding how ‘rustic’ or how ‘modern’ to create this backyard project. They both liked both looks, so during the design process, they arrived at a compromise that incorporated clean lines of a modern look but still used natural stone and natural mountain boulders, which all assisted in merging the modern, clean look with the natural rustic textures of natural stone products.

The homeowners were pleased for the most part but requested a few changes be made in how the firepit and patio tied in with the main portion of the patio. Also reduced the steps from two sets of steps to one set to save on cost

Main Elements of the Design:

• Main 15’x30′ back patio with Techo Bloc Blu 60mm Slate pavers
• Natural Stone Steps (Black Hills Steps) leading to the firepit and flagstone patio
• 50′ long Techo Bloc Mini Creta 3″ and 6″ block retaining wall and Techo Bloc York cap
• 18′ x 18′ natural flagstone patio (Black Hills Flagstone)
• Techo Bloc fire ring kit
• 15′ Techo Bloc Mini Creta 3″ and 6″ block seating wall around the firepit and Techo Bloc York cap
• “The Cascade” Bubbling Rock setup (the Cascade includes three natural sandstone bubbling boulders, arranged in a fashion to maximize falling water and the rippling water sound)
• 35′ long x 4′ wide sidewalk with Techo Bloc Blu 60mm Slate pavers
• Landscaping throughout the project with low-maintenance plants, natural mountain boulders, and mulch.
