Custom Recreational Swim Pond in Mahaffey, PA: A Backyard That Feels Like a Private Resort

This project in Mahaffey, Pennsylvania is truly a one-of-a-kind outdoor living space—everywhere you look, there’s something to take in.

Originally, the property featured a traditional swimming pool with concrete decking. But at this stage in life, the homeowners were ready for something more exciting and meaningful. They wanted a space that felt natural, custom, and designed for gathering with family and friends.

After visiting a previous client’s swim pond, the decision was easy—this was the direction they wanted to go.

A Custom Design Built for All Ages

Our lead designer, Derek, created a space that blends beauty, function, and versatility for all generations.

This recreational swim pond was thoughtfully designed with:

A gradual entry area for younger swimmers
A deeper section for swimming and relaxing
Natural elements that mimic the look and feel of a mountain spring

The result is a space that everyone—from kids to grandparents—can safely enjoy.

Seamless Outdoor Living from House to Pool House

A paver patio and connecting walkway lead from the home to the outdoor living space and pool house, creating a smooth, natural flow throughout the backyard.

Surrounding the space, we installed low-maintenance perennial plantings selected for the local climate in Central Pennsylvania. These beds will continue to fill in over time, providing a lush, established look without constant upkeep.

The patio itself offers ample room for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the entire space.

A One-of-a-Kind Integrated Hot Tub

One of the most unique features of this project is the custom-built hot tub, constructed using the same materials as the swim pond.

This creates a seamless, cohesive look—blending perfectly into the surrounding environment and eliminating the visual break you often see with traditional spas.

Built for Fun: Waterslide & Waterfalls

This backyard was designed to be just as fun as it is beautiful.

A custom waterslide winds through mountain boulders and plantings before splashing into the swim pond—creating a resort-style experience right at home.

We also incorporated a waterfall system that flows directly into the pond, adding movement, sound, and a natural focal point while improving water circulation.

Elevation, Structure & Natural Stone Details

To transform the original flat yard, we introduced dimension and elevation with a carefully designed retaining wall system.

Natural stone steps using Black Hills stone provide easy access throughout the space while enhancing the overall look and feel. These elements not only improve functionality but also reinforce the natural aesthetic of the entire project.
