Transforming a Woodland Retreat Into the Ultimate Outdoor Living Space

This woodland home, tucked among tall pines, already offered plenty of privacy—but the homeowners wanted a space where they could enjoy the outdoors to the fullest. That’s where we shine! Derek worked closely with the family to design a complete landscaping and hardscaping makeover that turned their backyard into a true outdoor oasis.

We replaced the old wooden deck with a spacious paver patio, creating the perfect area for entertaining guests or enjoying quiet evenings at home. At the heart of the patio sits a cozy custom fire pit—not just for warmth, but also for cooking over an open flame.

To one side, we installed one of our signature water features, The Koi Pond. With its flowing waterfall, lush plantings, and colorful landscaping, it adds both beauty and relaxation to the space. The sound of moving water brings a sense of peace, making it a natural gathering spot for family and friends.

The true focal point of this backyard is the grand pavilion. Designed with a large stone fireplace, it provides year-round enjoyment and plenty of protection from the elements. Whether it’s summer shade or winter warmth, the pavilion has become the centerpiece of the family’s outdoor living.

A thoughtfully landscaped walkway leads to the front of the home, planted with easy-care perennials that provide seasonal color without the heavy maintenance.

And the “wow factor”? A rooftop escape, accessible by custom stairs. From here, the homeowners can stargaze which was a priority for them, catch a glimpse of the northern lights, or simply soak in the sun during the day. This unique feature makes their outdoor space truly one-of-a-kind.
